Cuban, Latin Jazz

Got to watch the Luis Mario Ochoa Quintet at the Royal Conservatory last Thursday, April 23rd.

The Conservatory has returned to its spectacular home now called Telus Centre for Performance and Learning, at Bloor West, a stone's throw away from the AGO.

The quintet was fabulous. They played original compositions by Luis Ochoa and by the pianist Hilario Duran.

There was the Cuban music with elements of jazz, Brazilian rumba, samba, there was a Peruvian selection, a Puerto Rican composition and the famous Siboney by Ernesto Lecuona, which was sang that night by Luis Mario Ochoa. There was also a piece entitled Cemento.

It was a good night for dancing, even if it was only done in one's chair.
